Chairman of the Mayor’s Commission to Combat Police Corruption, Mark Pomerantz resigned last Tuesday, one day after a City Council Public Safety Committee hearing where he testified that his commission has faced “lack of cooperation by the Police Department” in fulfilling its mission.
Pomerantz, who will step down on June 1st, said that his resignation had been tendered a month before the hearing on April 18th. But the timing was, in any event, a culmination of criticism that the NYPD has been facing for months.

Two transit workers did not attempt to stop the rape of a 21-year-old woman on the platform of the G train at the mostly deserted 21st Street station in Long Island City early Tuesday morning. The attacker, who had an apparent foot fetish, assaulted the woman on the train and then followed her into the station just before 3 a.m.
